What is TOIS and who can benefit from it?

TOIS stands for THERAPY ORIENTED, INTERNET-BASED SPECIAL EDUCATION. It is a form of virtual anxiety treatment.

Specifically, TOIS is a form of instruction designed for truant students with psychopathological disorders.

The TOIS framework begins with the creation of small and immersive virtual classrooms which serve to provide a safe space for students. Here they can repeat classes or entire semesters, as well as prepare for state exams.

TOIS is also a therapeutic approach.

TOIS methods are derived from characteristics of Internet Related Communication (IRC); specifically, the principle of “channel-reduction” or the filtering out of social cue stimuli.

The therapeutic approach is individualized – based on a learning plan tailored to the student’s unique needs and derived from required curriculum.

Although TOIS utilizes e-learning methods, the program is distinct from e-learning on a fundamental level. Whereas e-learning assumes a participant is more or less motivated to carry out a lesson, TOIS is geared towards activating children and young adults who have either partially or fully rejected learning in a social environment thus far.
